A LETTER FROM LANCE
How This Started
Friends thought I was crazy when I told them I was building a pickleball facility in Amed. When I got here, I found out nobody in town had even heard of the sport.
I originally came to Amed for the diving, but stayed for the people. The south had its beach clubs and traffic, but here there was room to build true connection.
The first court went up in early 2023, and there was no intention of it being a business. I had recently found the sport before moving to Bali and hoped to find three people crazy enough to give it a shot and play with me. Over the next few weeks and months more and more people got interested, and by the end of the year we had others from around Bali coming to play with us. It wasn't until the end of 2024 that I realized this could be a business and started working on building up to four courts.
We hire local. Made, Pandu, Agus, Beno, and Desi run the courts every day. They learned the sport from scratch and they will rally with you for as long as you want. Most of them play barefoot.
We built four courts in the jungle because that's where pickleball should be played in Bali. Two covered from the sun and rain, two uncovered to really feel and appreciate the jungle around you. Sounds of birds in the morning, breeze blowing through your hair, and the kind of green you can't fake.
If you're in Bali, come make the trip to Amed and play — maybe stay a few days. We'll be here.
